Matt obviously has a problem with people God has chosen to speak with. God (aka the voice inside my head) talks to me all the time.. He tells me things like "Tell people that I have ordered you to gather all their money and property, and that they should immediately begin sending you large donations," and I say back to God, "Nah, that will never work because liberals will ridicule me. With my luck, I'll face mail fraud and tax evasion charges because liberals want not only to interfere with everyone's religious freedom, they also stand in the way of anyone who tries to make an honest buck.” Then, God berates me for being a spineless coward and threatens me with perpetual poverty. And on it goes.
And Matt, since I have you on the defensive, do you know the mercury content of Chinese currency? Huh? Do ya? I thought not!
And finally, who hasn't hidden behind bushes to eavesdrop on lesbians? Are you telling me, Matt, that if you come out of a bar and you see two hot lesbians talking and giving some love you're not going to sneak around the corner and spy on them? You must be gay.
Okay, so enough...I've made my point...partially made my point. Now, I just need to repeat it over and over and over on the blogosphere and in the national media so it will magically become true. Well, for millions of voters anyway. This is how the stupid confound the intelligent! This is their brilliant plan.
Michele Bachmann wants to abolish the EPA. She wants to open ANWR to drilling. Her "energy issues" page: looks like it was written by BP's public relations department. She even wants to abolish Cap and Trade. Seriously, she should just come out and declare "I will work directly for the big oil companies" and be done with it. She even says Obama over reacted to the BP Oil Spill. Matt is right when he says not to laugh at Bachmann. She has her lips on the fat asses of big oil executives so look for them to donate huge sums to her campaign and to thinly disguised PAC groups that, in effect, support her campaign without actually supporting her campaign, if you know what I mean.
Her job's page practically merges with her Energy (affordable energy) page. Her economic plan appears to be 1.) Weaken or eliminate the EPA (a.k.a. the Jobs Killing Agency) 2. Reduce the price of energy by drilling more 3. Eliminate counterproductive regulations (that would be regulations counter-productive to sucking oil out of ANWR, deep water drilling, and/or producing lots of carbon emissions) 4.) Reduce taxes on businesses while deep six-ing the Internal Revenue Code. In other words "Drill Baby Drill". Where have I heard that before?
As Taibbi points out, Bachmann is a formidable, if not rabid campaigner. Unlike Palin, she rips through her opponents with sheer focus. She is impossible to interrupt, can stay on point, and she really looks hot; crazy, but for 55, definitely a MILF. Okay, maybe not. . . But she is articulate and doesn't sound like Dorthy with her little red shoes getting off the train in the big city, the way Palin does. Palin is a stammerer, or should be. The less Palin is understood, the better off she is. Don't paint Michele Bachmann with the same brush. Bachmann's not going to take any shit from someone like Katie Couric the way Palin did. Bachmann would: 1.) Kick Katie Couric in the mouth, and 2.) Restate the sentence she left off on. However, and I loathe saying this for fear that I may promote liberal indolence at the polls, but I have yet to be persuaded Bachmann has a real shot at the Presidency, unlike Taibbi who laments, "It could happen." The success or failure of Bachmann's campaign depends on whether she can distance herself from positions she has taken in the past and the things she has said, without alienating her Tea Party base and caucus. It's an “either or proposition.” At the end of the day Bachmann will have to choose between the Tea Party and sane voters. And then you have this whole thing of how Bachmann emits the same weird scary vibe and the same starry gaze and freaky frenetic energy as Lisa Kimmell Fisher, Nate's wife (Played by Lili Taylor) in Six Feet Under. If you're not a fan, think a more socialized Squeaky Fromme but on crack.. If you don't believe me check out the photos from this site. I rest my case.
Finally, there is the obvious hypocrisy: Michele Bachmann worked as a Federal Tax Attorney (in other words Tax Collector) for well over a decade. Now she leads the Tea Party Caucus. Anyone needing to define the term "irony" on a test and give an example, feel free to use the one given above! Add to this cognitive dissonance the LA Times story: "Bachmann's had her share of government aid," which reports that, "Bachmann and her family have benefited personally from government aid." It turns out that, "a family farm in Wisconsin, in which Michele Bachman is a partner received nearly $260,000 in farm subsidies," as reported in the Times article. That article also reports that a counseling center run by her husband received $30,000 over a five year period from the State of Minnesota, and some of those funds were Federal. It seems impossible to sweep this all away, to reinvent Michele Bachmann, but no one should underestimate the amazing power of big oil money. If she is as shrewd as some writers have suggested, I would expect to see her downplay social issues and focus instead on fiscal issues and Obama's performance.
In light of all this, the good news is that I don't think Michele Bachmann as President would really refuse to raise the debt ceiling. The bad news is that's probably exactly what she wants me to believe. It's like reverse, reverse psychology. I'm baffled of course. "These are not the drones you're looking for!" They never are.
