The conservative hysteria against Obamacare is based on a gigantic lie. No one is forcing anyone to buy health insurance. What we are asking is for people to pay for the insurance they already have. Let's be real; if you have an accident or heart attack and make it to the ER, they will dispense expensive medical treatment to save your life regardless of whether you can pay for those emergency services or not. We don't allow people to die in this country from acute injuries if we can help it. Moreover, part of being a responsible adult is having a sensible plan of action for illness and accidents. This means that if an affordable medical plan is available to you and you don't avail yourself of it, you're behaving childishly.

My pediatrician and I have an understanding. He knows we're uninsured and every time I bring one of the kids in for a visit, he makes the same offer; pay $X amount today and mail me the bill- I'll write the rest off. I have yet to mail him back one of the bills, but it's the gesture that counts.

I'm a cautious parent, but not over the top. I don't feel compelled at my next visit to bring an itemized list of each scratch, bump and sneeze. If it wasn't worthy of a Dr. appointment, it goes away... He gets it; you can't report every sniffle.
